Subject: Notice to passengers – Winter conditions

Winters in Québec are well known for their varied precipitation.

As a northern airport, YUL Montreal International Airport has state-of-the-art equipment and a team of seasoned experts dedicated to dealing with poor weather conditions during Québec winters.

During snowstorms, removal of snow from the runways and apron is performed on a continuous basis, from the first to the last snowflakes. On average, removing snow from a runway takes about 20 minutes.

In event of freezing rain, a liquid de-icing product (potassium acetate) is applied preventively on runways, taxiways and apron guidance lines well before the first precipitation. Subsequently, a solid de-icing product is applied during precipitation. Mechanical de-icing with broom plows is carried out simultaneously and until the precipitation is over. It should also be noted that specialized equipment to tackle head-on the increasingly frequent episodes of freezing rain have been added to the YUL fleet.

It is important to note that weather conditions at other airports may change the schedule of flights at YUL: a flight to Montréal-Trudeau may be delayed or cancelled if the aircraft departed late or failed to take off from its origin airport.

ADM Aéroports de Montréal advises travellers departing from YUL Montréal-Trudeau International Airport to always check the status of their flight with their airline before coming to the airport. A directory of airlines is available at www.yul.com in the Air Services section.
